Beginning of Week 4

20160614_123800I really planned on getting more comfortable with Arduino this week, and alas, I have accomplished quiet a bit. So far it’s just Wednesday and I have learned how to get the light sensor working, have programmed a button to turn on two LED’s, and currently still working on understanding how to go about the programming of the buzzer. As of right now, we’er still practicing how to incorporate these micro-controllers into our quilt. 20160614_093245 (1)

20160614_093238At this point for the sake of just using this prototype as an exemplar, I’m envisioning making the little frog’s cheeks light up and make him vibrate/buzz when a button is pushed. Sounds pretty simple, but it’s a start and is quiet the accomplishment as for someone who was just introduced to this in just shy of three weeks ago. Also tonight, we’re again going to Cheryl’s to continue on learning how to finish our quilts with connecting the backing to the piecing and the adding the boarder, so that should be fun. Also by the end of this week, I want to have the conductive

PROTOTYPING LAB ACCESS CARD FINALLY HERE!

thread sewn into the fabric and add the Arduino pieces after sewing the path.

What’s also a highlight of the beginning our week was that we finally got our access cards to the prototyping lab, so we can finally go in to lab without Katie or Ben’s cards! 😀 (it’s the little things)

As for the remaining of the week, we also are to peer review a colleague’s paper and will be having our Peer Review Seminar this after noon and will be going over that, so that’ll be nice to keep the paper going. Katie also gave some of her feed back to us, which was such a big help because there have been many times in the writing process where we’ve been at quiet a loss on how go about approaching the study. One big thing I noticed is that we were taking techniques from other authors and papers, when writing a paper is a time to stand out and take an approach from another perspective that is different from all those papers. Take away what was good from the papers, but not everything.

Also for our findings, we have some goals on where tracking devices (sensors, accelerometer) can be set on the quilt to see where they can be sewn into the blanket for best effective data collecting, try different ways to have the data collected and sent to other devices such as cell phones, and having the prototypes completed themselves. That’s the plan on the  type of data we’ll be presenting as a results in our paper.

All in all, things are going well and Olivia and I have been on track with getting things done! It’s only Wednesday so there’s still a few days more to go for week 4!
