6/1 Update

Friday (5/26):

This was my first day in the vision lab.  I started by downloading three textbooks:

  1. Computer vision: Algorithms and Applications by Szeliski
  2. Digital Image Processing by Burger and Burge
  3. MIT Deep Learning Book by Goodfellow

I started and read chapter 6 on filters and a bit of chapter 5 on point operators.  It was interesting yet not entirely relevant to the possible projects I could do.

Tuesday (5/30)

I finished chapter 5 on point operators.  I kept typed notes of all of my work.  I began a little bit on the computer vision book and was able to finish chapter 1.  I read some of the Deep Learning book and finished most of chapter 2 on linear algebra.  We had our first team meeting today to discuss various updates.  I am going to stop reading the digital image processing book.

Wednesday (5/31)

I have finished chapter 2 of the deep learning book and then chapter 1, which is the introduction.  This will be discussed on Friday when we have our reading group.  I got stuck on chapter 2 of the computer vision book because of the unfamiliarity with some of the math.  Dylan got me all set up on the server so now I have access to some of the data in the server.  I got started on a tensorflow tutorial that I will finish off tomorrow.  I also did a little bit of python review.

Thursday (6/1)

I am digging through chapter 2 of the computer vision book but the math is still tough.  It is on my to-do list to discuss through this chapter with Dr. Crandall.  I was able to review through all of the python material that I learned before.  Today I’m meeting with Dr. Crandall to ask him some questions regarding the computer vision book and previous books, where to find data, and any useful papers.  I also want to start chapter 3 of the deep learning textbook as I don’t have a background in probability.  Ideally by tomorrow, we have access to data and Dylan and I can start labeling.  We are both leaning towards the wearable technology for visually impaired people project.  I also did some TensorFlow tutorials.  Finally, I gathered some useful papers on our project that I will read on my own time.
